2014

I taught the “Basic Functions” module of the “Intro to R” class organized by AOU Student Activities leader, Nick Mason, at the American Ornithologist’s Union in Estes Park, CO.

Every year, the Burke Museum runs a “Girls-in-Science” summer camp and I have been the “DNA-Day” leader for the past two years. I introduce the girls to DNA – what it is? where does it come from? what is the code? – and teach them now to extract DNA from vegetables. In 2014, I designed a new section that introduced girls to inferring species relationships from snippets of DNA and it was a great success!
